WHY JAPANESE?
I'm from the Fu Foundation School of Engineering, so I don't have any language requirement to meet. Therefore, at first, I took Japanese class just because I believed this skill would be beneficial for me in the job market, especially in Vietnam where there are many opportunities of working for Japanese companies. However, after nearly a month learning Japanese, I start to feel interested in the language and the culture itself. Japanese is so different from other languages that I'm familiar with all my life, such as Vietnamese and English, which both use the Romanized writing system. As the result, the way I learn and remember words and phrases is different too, which is certainly one of the reason that I consider Japanese so interesting. Moreover, learning a new language is also a way of learning a new culture, and every time I practice the intonations or acts accompanying greetings, I feel like I'm getting closer to the country in the other side of the globe, which is deeply intriguing to me.
Is Japanese easy? No, not at all. I have struggled with this language from the first day of class, and then the lab session too. It's okay, I have never been good at languages anyway. But I do feel that my Japanese is getting better everyday and hopefully I'll be able to communicate with the Japanese when I visit the country one day.
